Thomas Church, "George Brownell recognizance"
Rare Books & Special Collections, Hesburgh Libraries
This document and the two preceding (MSN/COL 2717-31 and 2717-32) relate to the case of George Brownell v. Thomas Brownell, heard by Bristol County justice of the peace Thomas Church at Little Compton on 9 February 1719/20. This third document clarifies the nature of Brownell's allegedly "falce report." It is a memorandum recording a bond of recognizance entered by George Brownell, with Jonathan Read as surety, in the amount of £20 each, on condition that Brownell appear before the Court of General Sessions to answer Thomas Brownell's charge that he sold alcohol without a license.
