i. Programs
Pfefer's accumulation of professional wrestling programs includes roughly 5,500 individual items from venues around North America. They range in form from single printed sheets to the magazine-like programs published for the largest athletic arenas; most commonly, though, they are modest four-page folded sheets produced in the offices of the local promoter. They always include the night's card, with attendant ballyhoo, and word of coming attractions. Though they may bear some of the outward trappings of periodicals, these are strictly in-house, promotional publications. Many of Pfefer's programs feature wrestlers he managed; most date from the 1940s, 50s, or 60s. They were originally held in manila envelopes marked by Pfefer with the city, venue, or promoter. They are now arranged alphabetically by state, and thereunder by city, venue, and date. Canadian programs (arranged alphabetically by province) follow those from American venues. Programs may also be found among the contents of Pfefer's subject files (Series V).
