Taormina Cathedral: View of facade with fountain in front
Architecture Library, Hesburgh Libraries
Built on the ruins of a small medieval church dedicated to St. Nicholas of Bari. It was built during the reign of Frederick III of Sicily (1296-1337). It has a Latin cross plan with three naves. The wooden ceiling has beams carved with Arabic style motifs. The main entrance was renovated in 1636, when the rose window and Renaissance-inspired doorway with a broken pediment was added.
