Jardin du Luxembourg: Medici Fountain
Architecture Library, Hesburgh Libraries
General view of the entrance to the fountain, on axis with the pond and fountain. Salomon de Brosse was the architect commissioned for the Palais du Luxembourg and gardens. The fountain may have been built by Thomas Francini under his direction. In 1811 Chalgrin did a Neoclassical restoration. The later iconography includes the figure of the jealous Cyclops (Polyphemus, above and in a niche), who waits to crush the lovers Acis and Galatea. The figures by Ottin were added in the relocation and rebuilding of 1863-1866.
