Santa Catalina Church (Capuchin Convent): Small courtyard in the convent with the statue of a saint
Architecture Library, Hesburgh Libraries
Among the major artists active in the city during the 17th century was Bartolomé Murillo, whose Marriage of S Catalina (St. Catherine) (1681) was in the church of S Catalina; it was while executing this work that the artist fell from the scaffolding, sustaining the injuries that led to his death. His follower Francisco Meneses Osorio finished the work (now in the Museo de Cadiz). Part of the convent still stands and is used as a hospital.
